DESCRIPTION:

A visit to Washington, DC is something that everyone should have an opportunity to experience. Add to that a tour to birthplace of our nation, Philadelphia, and you have a truly Historic Journey into the American heritage of this great country.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1 - Philadelphia: Arrive at Philadelphia International Airport where you will meet your Historic Journey's tour directors. We will immediately transfer to The National Constitution Center for a tour of the museum.  Transfer to your hotel for check in and orientation. Dinner will be provided this evening, followed by a short orientation driving tour of Philadelphia, including Independence Mall, Penn's Landing, City Hall and the Art Museum ("Rocky Steps").  Overnight in Philly.

DAY 2 - Philadelphia/Valley Forge/Baltimore: Breakfast will be provided at your hotel, followed by a full day of touring.  We meet our local guide at the Independence Visitor's Center.  From there we will visit Independence Hall, Liberty Bell Museum, as well as take a walking tour of the historic district including Ben Franklin's Grave, Betsy Ross House, Franklin Court, Carpenters House, and the Declaration House. We will be sure to stop for lunch (on own) at Reading Terminal, where you can not only eat, but can enjoy a unique shopping experience.  In the early afternoon, we will depart for Valley Forge, for a first hand look at where the Continental Army spent a grueling winter in 1777-1778. Following our experience at Valley Forge, we will make our way to Washington, DC. On our way, we will make a stop at Baltimore's Inner Harbor, where Francis Scott Key was inspired to pen the words to the Star Spangled Banner during the War of 1812. After we have dinner (provided) at the Inner Harbor, we will complete our journey into Washington, DC.  We will check into our hotel in DC, and enjoy some much needed rest.

DAY 3 - Washington, DC: Following your breakfast at the hotel, we will begin our day in DC with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery.  We will there board the tram and witness the Changing of the Guard, and also visit the Kennedy Grave sites, Space Shuttle Challenger Memorial, Arlington House and the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial).  Following our visit to Arlington, we will make our way into the National Mall area where you will have time to explore the museums of the Smithsonian Institute, including the American History, Natural History, African American History and Culture, and the Air and Space Museum.  We will then get dinner (provided), followed by an evening guided tour of DC's monuments and memorials, including: Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Korean War Memorial, WWII Memorial, Martin Luther King, Jr Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and a photo stop at the White House. Overnight in DC.

DAY 4 - Washington, DC: We will begin our day with a breakfast provided at your hotel, followed by a visit to the US Capitol Building.  We will then make a stop at the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court Building.  We will have a chance to stop for lunch at the dining room of the Supreme Court building.  After lunch, we well then head over to the Newseum. This incredible museum features incredible exhibits which chronicle world history from the perspective to the news media.  We will the go back to the hotel to freshen up for your final evening in DC where we will embark on a dinner cruise on the Potomac River.

Day 5 - Washington, DC/Departure: Following breakfast at the hotel, we will leave our luggage at the hotel and make one last excursion.  We will head to Mount Vernon, home of George and Martha Washington. Following the visit to this beautiful plantation, we will return to the hotel and gather up our luggage for departure.  We will say our "good-byes" as we reflect on the wonderful experience of our Historic Journey to Washington, DC and Philadelphia.

For this tour, you will need to plan on arriving into Philadelphia before 2:00 pm on Day 1, and will need to be able to depart after 4:00 pm on Day 5
